What is an Alde Coolant Change?

Alde Heating System

Alde heating is a hydronic system which means that a heating fluid is heated in the boiler and circulated throughout the pipework in the caravan or motorhome. This will then provide heat via emitters like convectors and towel radiators. This heating fluid also contains an antifreeze. The antifreeze will also protect the boiler from corrosion and bacterial growth. The Alde heating fluid is magenta in colour and will need replacing every 5 years. If your coolant is any other colour then it will need replacing every 2 years.

What is the purpose of the antifreeze?

  • Facilitate the circulation around the system
  • Prevent freezing of the system
  • Protect the boiler from corrosion. Inhibitors form a protective coating within the system
  • Prevent bacterial growth

What is an Alde Coolant Change?

An Alde Coolant Change involves replacing the existing antifreeze in the heating system. This is carried out to maintain the performance of the Alde heating system and to prevent corrosion. Our engineers are trained in doing this service using an Alde Service Pump.

What do we do in an Alde Coolant Change?

To complete an Alde Coolant Change, we would drain the fluid from the system and replace it with a new (Alde recommended) G13 premium antifreeze.

We use a specific Alde pump to complete this process which pumps out the existing fluid, circulates the new Alde Coolant and releases air locks which may be in the system. The Alde heating is then switched on and tested for its efficiency.

Having and Alde Coolant Change will maintain your heating fluid, you know that your system contains the right mix of antifreeze and water and that the risk of frost damage, corrosion and bacterial growth has been minimised. Equip your Alde heating system with the best conditions for stable and pleasant heating throughout your caravan or motorhome.

What if my Alde Coolant Change is overdue?

If your Alde coolant change is overdue or if you are not sure of the age of the coolant, it is always best to change the fluid. Failure to replace the fluid when it’s due could result in premature corrosion to your heat exchanger which will result in a boiler replacement at a hefty price.
