Caravan & Motorhome Alde Coolant Change

Qualified and approved Alde heating engineer

Neil The Caravan Medic is a qualified and approved Alde heating engineer. We can perform an Alde heating coolant change to your system. We can also offer a repair service for Alde Heating Systems and warranty repairs.

Alde recommend that you change the Glycol fluid in your Alde Central Heating System to maintain a consistent level of performance and corrosion protection when heating your caravan or motorhome. The Alde Water Heating System is a closed loop system for radiators, which requires the water mixture flowing around the system to contain corrosion inhibitor (antifreeze) and water in a 50:50 mix.

This water mixture has to be drained and refilled periodically. Manufacturers usually install a blue or green fluid which gives a 2 year corrosion and frost protection however on newer caravans and motorhomes, manufacturers are now installing a pink (5 year) coolant. The corrosion inhibitor has a limited life, after it has expired the system will have no corrosion or frost protection and so the system needs to be drained and the fluid replaced.

We will drain down and refill your Alde system using specialist equipment. We will replace it with a 5 year G13 long-life antifreeze. This will then not need changing for a further 5 years.

Flushing Alde Coolant

Keep your heating system in tiptop condition

The Alde central heating system is a hydronic system, with the same heating principle as in most of our homes. The heat source comprises an LPG boiler with a 230-volt immersion heater, which heats a liquid mixture consisting of water and glycol. G13 premium antifreeze runs through the system and will need changing periodically.

Most newer motorhomes and caravans are built and supplied with pink antifreeze installed. This degrades and requires flushing after 5 years. If it’s not changed, it becomes less effective as an antifreeze and could put your system at risk of damage or costly replacement. If your caravan or motorhome has the blue or green coolant in the system then this will need replacing after 2 years.

Alde recommend that the original blue fluid is replaced by a specific pink antifreeze that lasts longer (5 years). Whilst the blue antifreeze is cheaper than the pink, the cost of changing blue fluid twice in 5 years far outweighs the extra cost of the pink fluid (changed once in the same period).

Alde Coolant Change

Here’s what you can expect from your Alde Coolant Change:

  • We will flush out the fluid currently in your Alde heating system and replace it with 5 year G13 long-life antifreeze using specialist equipment.
  • We will release any trapped air within the system using the Alde service pump.
  • We will put the heating system on the check that it is working correctly.
  • We recommend that after a coolant change, you keep a 1 litre bottle of pink G13 coolant to top up your system. It should be 10mm above minimum when cold.
  • The Alde fluid will then not need changing for a further 5 years.

How often do I need to change the Alde Coolant in my system?

If you have the blue or green coolant in your system then it will need to be changed after 2 years. If you have the pink coolant in your system then it will need to be changed after 5 years.

If my fluid level is low, can I top it up?

Yes. Alde recommend that the level is kept 10mm above minimum in a cold system. For topping up purposes, a system filled with blue antifreeze can be topped up with blue or pink fluid, but a system filled with pink should only be topped up with pink.

What will happen if I don't change my fluid in time?

In the worst case scenario, when the inhibitors in the antifreeze become weak, the boiler can corrode to the point where it fails and will no longer work. This is a super expensive item to replace. Parts of the system may no longer work (for example 240v heating). The key is to keep a record of when it was last changed and change it according to the 2 or 5 year guidelines.

Are you an Alde approved engineer?

Yes, we are approved by Alde to complete Alde coolant changes and service and repair your system. We can also complete warranty work for Alde.

How long does an Alde Coolant Change take?

An Alde coolant change takes about 2 – 2.5hours to complete.
